Partially-gelatinized flakes do not require milling. Lends a rich, grainy taste and will increase creaminess and body. When used at up to 40 percent of grist total, brewers can expect increased body, mouthfeel, head retention and/or subtle grain flavors. Distillers will find use for flaked barley in the mashbill for an irish-style whiskey or other grain washes.
