- Carnelian is the red, orange, or amber variety of Chalcedony. Though often a solid color, it may also be banded, in which case it would be jointly classified as both Agate and Carnelian. Carnelian is an ancient gemstone, having been used as gem material since antiquity.
- Chemical Formula: SiO2; Color: Red, Orange; Hardness: 7; Mineral Class: Quartz (Chalcedony); Some of our Carnelian spheres, eggs and hearts were heated to obtain the deep and intense red color!
- Carnelian, also referred to as 'cornelian', was thought to have been named after the color of the kornel cherry. Carnelian may often be confused with 'sard', a darker, brownish variety of chalcedony quartz. Since there is no clear distinction between sard and carnelian, many specimens may be correctly identified as both
