• Kyanite, whose name derives from the Greek word kuanos sometimes referred to as "kyanos", meaning deep blue, is a typically blue silicate mineral, commonly found in aluminium-rich metamorphic pegmatites and/or sedimentary rock. Kyanite in metamorphic rocks generally indicates pressures higher than four kilobars. Kyanite is also known as disthene, rhaeticite and cyanite.
• Chemical Composition of Kyanite: Al2SiO5; Hardness: Between 4 6.5: Color: Color Blue, white, gray, green, colorless.
• Kyanite's typical habit is a bladed crystal although it sometimes occurs as radiating masses of crystals. Kyanite is often associated with other metamorphic minerals such as garnet, staurolite and corundum.
